El “VAR” en el Mundial 2018: La Tecnología Amenaza la Belleza del Fútbol

Resumen

Antes del Mundial de Fútbol de 2018 las reflexiones sobre los riesgos de poner a funcionar el videoarbitraje (VAR) eran muchos, 4 años después ¿pensamos lo mismo? El VAR podría estar tomando la decisión correcta (o no) y la digitalización podría hacer que el fútbol fuese más lucrativo, a la vez que mejora el rendimiento de los jugadores y las tácticas de los entrenadores. Pero dicho “progreso” también amenaza con obstaculizar la emoción y el espíritu del juego. El temor es que a medida que continúe el implacable avance de la tecnología, el fútbol pueda perder la magia que lo hizo tan especial.

Abstract

Before the 2018 World Cup there were many reflections on the risks of putting video arbitration (VAR) into operation, 4 years later, do we think the same? VAR might be getting the decision right (or not) and digitalisation might be making football more lucrative while improving the performance of players and the tactics of managers. But such “progress” also threatens to hamper the excitement and the spirit of the game. The fear is that as the relentless progress of technology continues, football might just lose the magic that made it so special.
